For many years, Beals was a furniture designer with Knoll International and Litton Industries. These endeavors taught him the discipline required for taking a design from its conceptual stage through the various iterations necessary to develop a successful finished product.
Working from sketches and progressing to scale models and finally to the finished sculpture, Beals is renowned for his use of materials, craftsmanship, and clean, abstracted forms. His sculpture is shown and collected throughout the United States.
