André's work is often inspired by current events. "This head is part of a group of heads, anonymous portraits made as an homage to migrants who attempt the crossing of the Mediterranean. The standing heads represent the migrants who make it, while the ones that are lying down evoke the less lucky migrants," says André. The cracks, or "accidents in the wood," evoke accidents in the migrants' lives.
