"I arrived for an artist residency in Oaxaca, Mexico the day after Trump won the 2016 election and the threat of building a border wall loomed large" states Teddy Milder about this work. "Wandering across a beautiful pipe-organ cactus fence growing in the Ethno-Botanical Gardens was particularly poignant. Two rows of cactus provided a protected passageway and inspired me to build cactus skeleton structures that eerily evoke an open border and remember relics of those that did not succeed in crossing."

"I am intrigued by tension between hard & soft materials -both can be fragile or strong. Using this as an entry point, I explore inequality, shifting boundaries and spaces between ancient/contemporary, creation/destruction and peace/aggression. Beginning with my photos, scans and drawings from internal, local and distant travels, I use multiple techniques to create two and three-dimensional work on paper, cloth, metal and found detritus."
