CLEMENT MEADMORE: Geometry Transcended

November 17, 2005 - February 18, 2006
Sculpturesite Gallery is pleased to exhibit thirteen works spanning three decades in bronze and painted aluminum by the late sculptor recognized for his important contributions to modern sculpture primarily as a master of elegant and lyrical public sculpture. Works from 12 inches to 12 feet in height are shown in our indoor and outdoor exhibit spaces. The only etching the artist created is also on display.

“Clement Meadmore is one of the most highly respected artists of his generation... Although initially linked with the Minimalists, Meadmore has transcended geometry with work of uncommon force and elegance, powerful in large scale and small. It relies for its effect on the opposition between line and mass, also deriving power and eloquence from its fusion of formal invention with intense feeling, a frankly spiritual dimension. Yet, ultimately the appeal of Meadmore’s work lies in its success as sheer form.” - Eric Gibson, former Art Critic of the Washington Times
