JAMES MOORE Statement

More than thirty years ago as I sat under the shade of a large walnut tree, my attention was drawn to one of its fallen branches. It was small and old and it changed my life forever. It was with this small piece of walnut that I began my life as an artist.

I describe the human form using a powerfully simple visual vocabulary based on the cube. When the rules of figurative proportion and balance are applied, the resulting works capture what I see as the essence of movement and gesture. Over the years my work has been described as fun, playfully powerful, thoughtful and introspective - I think all of these are true depending on the viewer.

I want my artwork to add something positive to the world. By exploring themes of hope, strength, and playful possibility, my sculpture conveys a positive message of what I feel it means to be human.
