CAROLE A FEUERMAN

CAROLE A FEUERMAN

CAROLE A FEUERMAN Biography

Carole A. Feuerman is recognized as a pioneering figure in the world of hyper-realist sculpture, which emerged around 1970 in relation to photorealist painting. Together with Duane Hanson, born in 1925, and John De Andrea, her contemporary, Feuerman was one of the three leaders in making life-like sculptures that portray their models precisely. While Hanson used uniforms and props to achieve a Pop Art irony, and De Andrea explores the love relationships of men and women, Feuerman’s sculptures have always visualized a natural beauty and a sense of inner peace, especially of women. Dubbed ‘the reigning doyenne of super-realism’ by art historian John Spike, Feuerman has solidified her place in the rhetoric of art history.

Born in 1945 and actively sculpting and exhibiting today, Feuerman's prolific career has spanned over four decades. She has been the subject of five museum retrospectives to date, and her works continue to be exhibited worldwide. In Italy, she has exhibited four times in the Venice Biennale, the Piazza della Repubblica, and the Teatro Romano e Museum Civico in Fiesole. In Asia, she has exhibited in Harbour City, Hong Kong; The National Museum of China, Shanghai; and the Daejeon Museum and Suwon Museum in Korea. Numerous public sculptures have been displayed in outdoor venues, including Petrosino Square in New York City and the Frederik Meijer Sculpture Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan. One of Feuerman's most recognizable bronzes, "The Golden Mean," can be seen in Riverfront Green Park overlooking the Hudson River and is owned by the City of Peekskill, New York. Her "Monumental Double Diver" is owned by the City of Sunnyvale in Silicon Valley, California.

In 2011, Feuerman founded the Carole A. Feuerman Sculpture Foundation in order to generate excitement, interest, and passion for the arts, and to inspire and award deserving artists with education grants. Feuerman will have a solo show at C24 Gallery in New York in May, 2016, and in 2017, she will have a solo show on the Grand Canal for the Venice Biennale. Her selected private collectors include the Emperor of Japan, President Bill Clinton & Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Norman Brahman, the Caldic Collection, Mark Parker, Andrey Molchanov, Unlu Menkul Degerler, Ariella Wertheimer, Robert Hurst, and Malcolm Forbes.

Selected text from John T. Spike, Art Historian, Assistant Director & Chief Curator of the Muscarelle Museum of Art.

CAROLE A FEUERMAN Statement

All of my life, making art has been my passion. As I have experienced life, the forms that my work has taken have evolved and deepened, and my love for creating has endured. I want my art to inspire the viewer to look closely at what stands before them. One never knows what’s in the mind, even when there is a smile on one’s face. It is not the fleeting moment that I try to capture, but the universal feeling caught in that fleeting moment. I want the viewer to complete the story, to reflect and feel touched. If this connection could be for eternity, it would be my masterpiece.
