"Breakthrough" by Czech sculptor Josef Marek shows an easy balance: the square within a square squarely set on the pedestal, the lacy texture and the highly polished surfaces, the presence and absence of forms (AKA positive/negative space) and the jagged path that leads to the center all unite to lend the piece a quintessential harmony. Maybe a metaphor for life itself?
