For our exhibition Being Woman, curator Brigitte Micmacker asked five remarkable women sculptors - Bella Feldman, Jane Burton, Gale Hart, Carol Koffel and Suzanne Morlock - for their perspectives on living and working in a male-dominated world. In their powerful conceptual works, tackling issues including cultural near-taboos such as gun ownership and violence, body image and control, woman’s work versus “real” work and the still ubiquitous glass ceiling, each artist explores how being a woman continues to inform her life and art practice.

During the lively panel discussion that brought together these five powerful women for the first time on the exhibition’s opening day, October 5, 2014, Micmacker asked each artist to elaborate on her life and artistic path, and moderated a discussion on the issues facing women today in society at large and in the art world. The entire event was recorded on video, which will be available for viewing at a later date.
